How To Have a Great Summer–PT Style!

The days are getting longer, the air is getting warmer, and school is winding down. That means one thing: summer is on its way! Here are some tips to ensure a healthy summer for you and your family:

  • Drink plenty of water. While you should strive to stay hydrated all year round, it’s particularly important in warmer weather.
  • Ease back into summer activities gradually. Whether you’re hitting the pool more frequently or taking more evening walks thanks to the later sunsets, avoid doing too much too soon. Start slow, don’t push too hard, and remember to warm up first.
  • Don’t skip your PT sessions. We know summer’s busy. But keeping up with your physical therapy will help you stay active and pain-free throughout the season–and beyond!

Ready to make the most of the summer months? Schedule an appointment with ProAction Physical Therapy today!

What’s Making Your Knee Hurt?

Knee pain is no joke! It can sideline you from recreational activities, make it hard to climb stairs, and just get in the way of everyday life. But what causes that annoying ache? Let’s look at three common culprits.

Overuse Injuries occur due to repeated movements like running, jumping, or twisting because your knees work overtime to absorb the weight and pressure of your movements. That activity can lead to:

  • Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendons, the soft tissues that connect muscles to bones.
  • Bursitis: Swelling in the small fluid sacs that cushion the knee joint.

Degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis cause inflammation and the breakdown of cartilage. This wearing away of the cartilage removes the cushion-like protection between the bones that make up the knee joint.

Injuries like those from a fall, sports mishap, or even a weird twist are frequent culprits of knee pain.

  • Torn Ligaments: A tear in the tough bands that hold your knee bones together (like an ACL injury) can cause pain, swelling, and a feeling like your knee is giving out.
  • Meniscus Tears: The meniscus is a type of cartilage in your knee that acts as a shock absorber. A tear usually hurts on one side of the knee and can make it difficult to bend.

Service Spotlight: Kinesio Taping

Kinesio taping is an effective treatment option that can help relieve pain and support recovery, especially for athletes or anyone dealing with injuries that interfere with daily life. At ProAction Physical Therapy, this technique is used to promote healing, improve mobility, and help patients return to their normal routines comfortably.

This method works by improving communication between the skin, muscles, joints, and tendons, helping to restore proper movement and muscle function. It can also reduce pain by limiting the signals sent to the brain, allowing muscles to relax, decreasing spasms, and improving overall blood flow and movement.

During a typical session, a physical therapist applies specialized tape to the affected areas while incorporating additional exercises and treatments tailored to your specific needs. The goal is to provide support, enhance mobility, and address the root cause of your discomfort.

Kinesio taping offers several benefits, including pain relief, joint stabilization, scar tissue management, and reduced swelling. By improving circulation and decreasing pressure in injured areas, it supports faster healing and more comfortable movement.

When combined with a personalized physical therapy plan, Kinesio taping can help you recover more effectively and get back to doing what you love. If you think it could benefit you, scheduling an appointment is the first step toward feeling better and moving with confidence again.
